Grant/Adams Area Extension
Grant/Adams Area Extension provides educational programs available to the people in Grant County and that part of Adams County receiving water from the Columbia Basin Irrigation Project. Our mission is to help people develop leadership skills and use research-based knowledge to improve their economic status and quality of life.Programs are available to all people in agriculture and natural resources, 4-H youth development, family living and community resource development. This is accomplished by providing information, education, technical assistance and local development programs.Our staff consists of one chair, five agricultural educators, one 4-H youth development educator, one family living educator, one program assistant, two program coordinators and three secretaries. All staff are headquartered in the Courthouse in Ephrata. We serve approximately 1,800 irrigation farmers, 125 wheat-summer fallow farmers, 125 dryland irrigation combination farmers, 600 families and 850 youth in the area. Total population of the area is approximately 75,000. More than 70 different crops are commercially produced and all major livestock enterprises are represented in the area. Master Gardener programs serve the area and adjacent areas of Lincoln and Douglas counties. Extension is financed by federal, state, and county funds. Grant funding enhances certain special emphasis programs. Federal and state funds are administered through the state extension office at Pullman, Washington. County funds are administered locally by the extension chair agent. Agents are faculty members of the College of Agriculture and Home Economics at Washington State University, Pullman, hold United States Department of Agriculture appointments and are also Grant County employees. Cooperating agencies: Washington State University, U.S. Department of Agriculture, and Grant County. Extension programs and employment are available to all without discrimination. Evidence of noncompliance may be reported through your local Extension office.
