Crops and Soil Compaction

Cover crops can reduce existing soil compaction. By planting cover crops with deep taproots, subsoil compaction can be reduced. Crops such as sweet clover and sudangrass have been shown to do this. On the other hand, topsoil can be loosened by growing grass cover crops with many fine roots.
